“Il medico della peste”, italian for “the plague doctor”, wasn’t a very funny venetian mask even in 16th century, but the contrast between appearance and acting can result very funny.
People from Venice are usually very creative in complicated roleplaying mechanics, so being disguised as Plague Doctor is the most classical mask for witty sarcastic individuals.

The Bauta was popular in Venice as anonymizer. It wasn’t used only during Carnival, but in normal life there were laws about mask usage. Anyway people from noble or rich families always used Bauta in parties or brothels to protect their families’ reputation.

Venice Carnival 2011 be celebrated from 26 February to 8 March, with anticipations on 19 and 20 February.

You must see the church of Santa Maria Del Giglio, situated on the Campo Santa Maria Zobenigo, west of the Piazza San Marco. The gorgeous edifice is made of fine quality white stone from Croatian island of Brac. The frontage and the entrance of the church is opulently beautified by the fine sculpts.

The Accademia Gallery has one of the finest art collections in Europe. The walls are lined with works by Venetian master painters including Bellini, Titian, Veronese and Tintoretto.

It’s impossible to think of Venice without thinking of canals and Gondolas. Cars are not allowed in the city and all transportation is on water. Travel like a true Venetian, hop on the Vaporati (water bus) and travel along the Grand Canal. It will take you under the Rialto Bridge and is a perfect way to admire the beautiful palaces lining the Canal.

Don’t miss the Doge’s Palace. The Doge in olden Venice was the political leader who administered Venice and held great power over political, economic and social powers over Europe. The Doge’s Palace became a symbol of that power and the magnificent building became a famous landmark in San Marco Square. There is a tour called the Secret Itinerary of the Doge’s Palace which allows you to view parts of the palace not allowed to the general public.

Ponte dei Sospiri – Ponte dei Sospiri literally means the Bridge of Sighs and it is a very famous destination in Venice. The bridge was originally meant for prisoners who were sentenced to jail, but recently it has become a tourist attraction popular with families and romantic couples
